WHERE AM I?

Hudson Town Pound

The intersection of Melendy and Pelham Roads!

Roughly every town had a town pound, some towns had more than one. Originally, town officials placed lost livestock in the pound for safekeeping until owners came to claim them. However, in 1791 a law was passed allowing the officials to confiscate livestock from residents who didn’t pay their taxes, thus, keeping them until all taxes and fines were paid. If unclaimed, the animals were auctioned to the highest bidder.
