CALEA Accreditation

Law Enforcement Accreditation Seal

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc (CALEA) was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of Law Enforcement Major Executive Associations.  The CALEA Accreditation Program seals are obtained by agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been reviewed by the CALEA Commission.

The CALEA Accreditation programs provide public safety agencies with an opportunity to voluntarily meet an established set of professional standards.  The CALEA Accreditation requires agencies  to develop a comprehensive and well balanced set of written directives that clearly define authority, performance and responsibilities.  The program provides reports and analysis to the CEO’s of public safety agencies so they can make fact-based and informed management decisions.  Agencies are required to have a preparedness program in place to address natural or man-made critical incidents.  The program also encourages and assists in fostering and maintaining a positive relationship with their community.  Obtaining a CALEA Accreditation seal can also limit the agencies risk and liability because the standards have been met and independently reviewed by assessors.  The CALEA Accreditation promotes an agencies pursuit of continuous excellence through annual reviews and other assessments.

In 2003, the Hudson Police Department was recognized for its professional excellence and awarded National Accreditation for the first time.  In December 2017, the Hudson Police Department participated in its sixth re-accreditation process.  As a result of the process, the department was awarded with Advanced Law Enforcement Gold Accreditation status at the CALEA Conference held in Texas.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Program is specifically designed for elite organizations striving to demonstrate professional excellence within a comprehensive range of operational and administrative functional responsibilities.
