K9 Unit

Officer Dan Donahue with K9 Ice

The Hudson Police K9 Unit currently has one fully certified dual purpose K9 team - Handler Master Patrol Officer (MPO) Daniel Donahue and his K9 partner Ice. MPO Donahue and Ice received their certification through the Boston Police K9 Unit. The K9 team completed a 14 week Patrol K9 school and is certified in the following; Building Searches, Article Searches (evidence), Tracking, Obedience, Open Area Searches, and Criminal Apprehension. They maintain all certifications by attending monthly in service training hosted by the Boston Police K9 Unit.

The Hudson Police K9 Unit is also certified in Narcotics Detection. The K9 team attended and passed a 6 week Narcotic Detection School and holds a National Certification in Narcotics Detection through the United States Police Canine Association and re-certify annually. The K9 team is a great asset to the Patrol Division and increases officer safety on high risk calls.  Some of the daily functions may include locating fleeing suspects and/or missing persons and assisting Officers on motor vehicle stops.   They also perform K9 Demonstrations at various Community Events, such as Old Homes Days. Just a friendly reminder, even though Ice looks like he gives good hugs, please for your safety, do not approach him or any K9 team while they are working.  Additionally, the best way to assist a K9 team who is tracking a suspect is to stay inside your residence. Please do not try to relay any possible suspect information to a working K9 team or cover officers.  That information is best passed on by calling HPD dispatch at 603-886-6011, or 9-1-1.
