School Resource Officers

The School Resource Officers are primarily responsible for working within the Hudson School System to enforce laws while promoting a safe and drug free environment and building positive relationships between students, faculty, parents, and the police.  The support on behalf of students, parents and school administrators continue to make this a very successful youth crime prevention and mentoring program.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E)

The D.A.R.E. program is presented at two levels of education (5th grade & 7th grade) in Hudson. The goal of this program is to significantly reduce or eliminate the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs and the use of violent behaviors by young people.   The School Resource Officer presents this program over 10 days in the classroom with the students.  It not only is an educational experience but also fosters positive interactions with the police.

Elementary SRO

The Elementary School Resource Officer is responsible for 5 different buildings; ranging from Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.  The SRO serves approximately 2000 students and 360 staff members. The primary focus of this officer is for education; Halloween safety, bike safety, stranger danger and life skills.  The officer is visible in the classroom, playground and school cafeteria. Due to the young age of the students, the officer works closely with the school administration when investigating any criminal cases involving students and the majority of the cases will be referred to the school for appropriate discipline. SRO Cassandra Avery is the officer covering elementary schools.

Middle School SRO

The Middle School Resource Officer is responsible for one building with grades ranging from sixth through eighth. This SRO serves approximately 900 students and 120 staff members.  This SRO has three primary functions; education, counseling and law enforcement.  At this level, the SRO is seen in the classroom presenting Internet Safety, Crime Scene Investigations and Juvenile Law.  Furthermore, the SRO makes connections with 8th grade students during a “Police Day” where the students learn more about police work and allows students to get to know officers on a more personal level. SRO Jason Downey is the officer covering Hudson Memorial Middle School.

High School SRO

The High School SRO is responsible for one building with grades levels ninth through twelfth.  Alvirne High School consists of a vocational technical school which attracts students from surrounding towns as well.
