Policy for Memorials, Recognitions & Monuments
All Benson Park dedications, memorials or recognitions in place on or before October 1, 2018 shall be grandfathered and permitted until such time the donor requests removal.
Nothing should be allowed outside the green area on the park map except trail signs because the outer area of the park is deemed conservation land and should be kept as natural as possible.
Adopt-a-Spot Locations
- Adopt-a-Spot locations shall be limited to 1 sign that complies with Landscape Committee rules.
- Signs must be constricted of quality wood, concrete or stone. Plastic or metal is not acceptable.
Tree Donations
- Donations of trees are acceptable at a cost of $1200.00 per tree. Species and planting location shall be agreed upon between the donor and the Benson Park Committee. All trees must be a minimum diameter of 2 1/2", measure at at 1' above ground level and must be at least 8' tall. These trees will be purchased, planted, mulched and maintained by the Hudson Parks Department for 12 months after planting. The Parks Department assumes no liability for the life of the tree. If the tree dies within the first 12 months, the Parks Department will replace it at no cost to the donor. All donated trees will be planted between September 1 and October 15 of each year.
- Quantity to be determined by Benson Park Committee on an annual basis.
- If the donor wishes to have a stone marker to accompany the tree,the marker must be mounted flush with the ground. No other markers are allowed. As viewed from the face of the marker, the marker will not be greater than twelve inches wide, eight inches high, and four inches thick. Lettering will run left ot right on the width of the marker.
- The design and installation of the marker must be approved by the Benson Park Committee prior to installation.
- Due to safety concerns, no ceremonies are allowed at the time of planting.
Other Permanent or Semi-Permanent Fixtures
- Other fixtures including, but not limited to, plaques, statues, upright memorials, monuments and fountains shall not be allowed in Benson Park.
Other Projects
- Larger scale projects must be submitted to the Benson Park Committee for evaluation and approval.
- These projects must fit within the vision of the Master Plan and not inhibit park maintenance in any way.
