Registering to Vote
This guidance was updated on November 11, 2024.
To register and vote in New Hampshire, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older on election day;
- A United States citizen; and
- Domiciled1 in the town or ward where you seek to vote.
You must provide documents to prove your identity, age, citizenship, and domicile to register. You may present documents in paper or electronic form.
- A driver’s license or non-driver ID from any state is proof of identity and age. A driver’s license or non-driver ID is also proof of domicile if the listed address matches the domicile address you enter on the voter registration form.
- A birth certificate, U.S. Passport/Passport card, or naturalization document is proof of citizenship and age.
Note: A New Hampshire Real ID compliant driver’s license is NOT proof of U.S. Citizenship.
Residents unable to visit the Clerk's Office due to absence or disability may register absentee. For questions specific to absentee registration please call the Town Clerk's Office at (603) 886-6003.
Deadline to Register to Vote
New Hampshire does not permit anyone to register to vote during the ten days prior to an election. This allows the Town Clerk & Supervisors of the Checklist time to prepare the checklist that will be used at the elections. Eligible voters may register to vote with the Supervisors of the Checklist at the polls on Election Day.
Military or Overseas Citizen Registration
Members of the military domiciled in Hudson can obtain from their commanding officer a standard Form 76 Federal Post Card Application - Registration and Absentee Ballot Request (red and white form). If you are an overseas citizen domiciled in Hudson or if your commanding officer does not have the form, it can be printed from the online version available at the Federal Voting Assistance Program page and mailed to the Hudson Town Clerk's Office, 12 School Street, Hudson, NH 03051.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee Ballots are available at the Town clerk's Office for those who are unable to vote at the polls on Election Day due to absence from town, physical disability, religious observance, or employment obligations.
Absentee Ballots can be requested in person at the Town Clerk's Office. During a primary election, undeclared voters will be asked to declare a party on their ballot request application. Ballots are given in-hand directly to the voter or delivered via U.S. mail.
