Legal Division
The HPD Legal Division is staffed by several civilian employees and a sworn HPD police officer. The division is led by Attorney Nicole Clay, who serves as the full-time Hudson Police prosecutor. Attorney Clay is a member in good standing of the New Hampshire Bar. She performs the prosecution of criminal cases in District Court at all stages- from arraignments to bench trials. She is also responsible for training the department on legal updates, including recent State legislation and court decisions. Attorney Clay supervises the other members of the HPD legal team: a court liaison officer, two legal clerks (one full-time and one part-time), and a victim/witness advocate.
The Court Liaison Officer is a sworn HPD police officer who is assigned full-time to the Legal Division. The officer is responsible for assisting Attorney Clay in the prosecution of criminal cases at the District Court. The officer also serves as a liaison between HPD and court staff.
The Legal Clerks' responsibility is to provide administrative support to the police prosecutor. They also maintain case files, organize file storage, update records, and track court dockets and dispositions.
The Victim/Witness Advocate acts as a resource for witnesses and victims of Hudson Police criminal cases. The advocate arranges services when victim assistance is necessary. The VWA also provides information and support to witnesses and victims throughout the court process. If you need more information about the victim/witness advocate or services of this nature, please click the 'Victim Services & Programs' tab below.
