Benson Park is a 166-acre, passive recreational spot open to the general public and is the pride of the local residents. Full of rich history, Benson Park was once home to "Benson's Wild Animal Farm", opened in 1924. Today the park is maintained by the Department of Public Works with help from a dedicated group of volunteers. The park is open daily with seasonal closing times.

The Town of Hudson welcomes those who use Benson Park. This property is owned by the Town of Hudson and we are very proud of it and strive to preserve it's beauty. For this simple reason we ask the following:

1. No groups of over 50 people allowed. (Over 15 and less than 50, please fill out Park Usage Form in menu and send in prior to your visit)

2. The park must be left in a clean and orderly fashion. All trash must be placed into the trash receptacles or the dumpster in the parking lot.

  • Identify tree and plant species with markers inside the park.
  • Refurbish picnic tables.
  • A project on "leave no trace" principles and how to incorporate them in the park.
  • Update and install permanent signs to replace the temporary signs on the buildings.

The former Benson's Wild Animal Farm property represents a significant opportunity for the Town of Hudson to provide open space and recreational amenities to its citizens. The 168-acre property was acquired by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHOOT) for the purpose of creating a wetland mitigation site for wetland impacts at various highway construction projects. These projects include widening of the F.E. Everett Turnpike and construction of the Nashua Circumferential Highway.

Children of Hudson Interacting with Police Services (C.H.I.P.S.) is a charitable organization which is dedicated to fostering improved relations between the children of our town and our police department. Since 1990 C.H.I.P.S., which consists of a committee of police officers, business people and concerned citizens, has endeavored to fund and produce programs which allow our town's police officers to meet and socialize with Hudson's children and their parents.

The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program has been in place in Hudson schools since 1988. Both Officer Jason Downey and Officer Cassandra Avery have been trained as D.A.R.E Officers. Currently, all fourth grade students attend a five week program, which is an introduction to the curriculum they will complete in the fifth grade.

The Hudson Police Department has partnered with Nashua Police Department. If interested in the Explorer Program please contact the Nashua Police Department at 594-3500.

Alvirne High School is a comprehensive public high school, grades 9-12, with an enrollment of 1550 students. After discussing and planning, the police department and the school community developed a proposal to fund and implement a School Resource Officer at the high school. In September of 1997, Paul Balukonis, a Master Patrolman with the Hudson Police Department, and former D.A.R.E. Officer, became the first Police member of the faculty.

The Hudson Police Department Technical Accident Reconstruction (T.A.R.) unit consists of trained accident reconstructionists and is led by Sergeant Michael Corey. The Hudson Police Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit consists of specially trained officers and is led by Lt. Kevin Riley. The team responds to all major crime scenes and is responsible for scene processing and evidence collection.

    The CSI unit members are:

You have the right to notify the police immediately if you have been a victim of any of the following crimes:

    Hudson Police Department Motorcycle Unit

The Motorcycle Unit is a highly trained and specialized division of the Hudson Police Department. Officers have attended an intense two week training course before they are allowed to operate the Hudson Police Department Motorcycles. Once certified, these officers use the motorcycles on proactive patrol, parades, special functions, and funerals.

Every year members of the Motorcycle Unit must pass a re-certification course.  Lieutenant Michael Davis, who is a certified motorcycle instructor is the Commander of this unit.

The mountain bike and UTV are great community-policing tools. A police officer on a bicycle is perceived as being approachable, as being a real person. The officer is outside and the bicycle gives a less threatening image than a police cruiser. The officer is always in contact with the public and most of these contacts are positive and friendly in nature.

The criminals are looking for and expecting a police car to respond not a bicycle. A mountain bike does not register in the mind of a criminal as being a threat. The mountain bike has no engine noise and does not use any fuel.

    Night Eyes Card - Front

Patrol officers working the late night shift attempt to protect the most common victim of a nighttime burglary, the business establishments. Officers check the buildings housing businesses in town for open windows, unlocked doors and any sign of forced entry.

In the event any of the above is detected, the officers notify the individual listed in our files as the person to contact in the event of an emergency. If nothing unusual is detected, the officer will leave a "NIGHT EYES" business card letting the owner know that the Hudson Police are active while the community sleeps.

The good people of the Town of Hudson gave an overwhelming response when we advertised the need for safe houses for the bicycle patrol. Safe Houses are simply locations throughout the town where the bicycle patrol can park a marked police unit without the possibility of it being tampered with or damaged.

The officer will embark on his journey throughout the neighborhood knowing that the marked unit will be safe from harm. We thank the many people in town that have volunteered their property for our use.

Officers working the day shift do random house checks for residents who are on vacation or temporarily away from their home for an extended period.

If the officer detects forced entry, open or unlocked doors or windows, or other problems with the property, a contact person, previously provided by the homeowner, is notified and informed of the finding.

A service still provided by the Hudson Police Department, terminated by several other larger departments, is the vehicle lockout.

Officers will attempt to unlock a person's car door if they are the registered owner or a member of the immediate family of the registered owner. A waiver must be signed in case the officer damages the vehicle in his/her attempts.

Go to the NH Circuit Court, 9th Circuit, District Divison - Nashua, 30 Spring Street. If you are not a resident of Hudson or Nashua, go to your local courthouse. If the court is closed, you may go to your local police department for an emergency restraining order.

Next, fill out the appropriate paperwork, providing as much information as possible. Should the court issue the temporary order, read and be familiar with the order and how it works. Keep a copy with you at all times.

Domestic abuse knows no boundaries; men, women, children and elderly, regardless of race, class, sexual orientation or economic status are victims.

It is a crime for anyone to assault or threaten you, even if that person is a spouse, ex-spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, household or family member, someone you are dating or someone you had once dated.

Abuse emerges in many forms. Abuse can be Physical, Emotional, Sexual, Verbal, Religious and Economical. Domestic Violence revolves around Power and Control. Often abusers are isolating, jealous and possessive.

    Tax Rate Synopsis and Description
    • The tax rate is made up of three principal components: County, Town & School Tax Rates. Starting in 1999, the School tax rate component of the tax rate was split, as per State legislative actions, into a state education tax rate, and a local education tax rate. This was done as a result of legislative actions in response to the State Supreme Court's Claremont ruling that addressed equity in education funding.
