Communications Division / Dispatch Center
The Communications Division / Dispatch Center of the Hudson Fire Department is the area of the organization responsible for receiving and transferring Emergency and Business information to the proper division within the department in a timely manner.
Staffing
The Dispatch Center is staffed by full-time dispatchers and on duty firefighters. The Center is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Each full-time dispatcher works 12 hours a day, 4 days a week. This makes up two 12-hour shifts a day. The Dispatch Center is located at the Central Station at 15 Library Street.
Duties
The daily activities consist of much more than answering request for Emergency Services and/or business related calls. The Dispatch Center is the first contact the public has when calling or entering the Fire Station. The dispatcher must be able to take accurate information when receiving a call requesting emergency response. The dispatcher must then send out the appropriate apparatus and personnel to help mitigate the situation, continue to monitor communications, monitor staffing and mutual aid response if needed. The Dispatch Center is also responsible for dispatching Fire and EMS calls for the Town of Litchfield, NH.
The Communication Division is the core of the Hudson Fire Department. It is important and essential for the transfer of emergency and non-emergency information to all other divisions of operations.
Training
All dispatchers and full-time members who cover the Dispatch Center receive a minimum of 40 hours of training before working alone in dispatch. Additional training is provided to the full-time dispatchers in areas such as Public Safety Dispatcher and Emergency Medical Dispatcher. The full-time dispatchers must maintain qualifications and certifications.
